Engineering

Our engineering organization is built to own products end-to-end while scaling through platforms, systems-first validation, and disciplined execution, so we deliver consistent results today and compound value across platform generations.

Product Development that Meets Customer Needs, Today and Tomorrow

Innovation

Continuous innovation is embedded throughout our engineering process as we explore future concepts and emerging technologies to refine existing products for improved performance and cost efficiency. We leverage our innovation capabilities, experience, and systems-based approach to deliver solutions to our customers.

Product Development Lifecycle

Engineering owns the full lifecycle of our products, from concept through production, evolution and launch—all while keeping execution centralized so we can scale and manage long-term cost.

End-to-End Engineering

GHSP’s engineering approach encompasses every step of the process, from manufacturing engineering and industrialization, tooling and process development, assembly, testing, and validation, quality systems and traceability, and launch support and volume ramp-up.

Global Engineering

GHSP’s engineering capability spans multiple regions, enabling us to support customers where they operate while leveraging a unified global development model. Our teams collaborate across disciplines and geographies to develop, validate, launch, and continuously improve mechatronic, sensing, and control systems that power the next generation of mobility solutions.

The Engineering Process

Our facilities in the United States and China provide program management, engineering (systems, mechanical, hardware, and software development), and validation services that improve safety, ensure compliance, and reduce risk. In addition, our teams in Mexico, India, and Japan provide product development and engineering support tailored to the needs of regional OEM customers. Together, our global teams support vehicle systems used in internal combustion, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric vehicles.

Product Development

The product development cycle takes our products from initial concept through launch and is organized into five primary phases.

Phase 1

Planning and Quoting

Develop commercial proposals and quote new businesses

Phase 1

Phase 2

Design and Development

Design products and processes. Implement continuous improvement activities to streamline the development process.

Phase 2

Phase 3

Phase 5

Process Reviews

Ongoing throughout the cycle

Design reviews, program status reviews, MRRs, craftsmanship reviews, and customer master samples.

Engineering Simulation & Modeling

Our engineering team has extensive experience using simulation and modeling software throughout the product development process. We have a design team specializing in Moldflow analysis and topology optimization, supported by a global CAE team with expertise in Enventive, 3DCS tolerance analysis, ANSYS Maxwell, and other advanced simulation technologies. This allows us to optimize designs, validate performance, and accelerate development across our product portfolio.

Testing & Validation

With comprehensive testing resources located in both the United States and China, we validate product performance under a wide range of operating conditions. Our capabilities include software testing and validation, mechanical and electrical performance testing, lifecycle durability assessments, environmental exposure testing (including salt spray, humidity, and high-pressure wash evaluations), and noise and vibration analysis.

Engineering Capabilities

GHSP is at the forefront of automotive innovation, delivering solutions that enhance vehicle performance and drive the future forward. Our technologies align with the transformation to electrification and intelligent controls while providing customization through leveraging shared platforms.

Improving Efficiency, Performance, and User Experience

GHSP combines mechanics, electronics, software, appearance design, and systems engineering to deliver intelligent vehicle control, thermal and fluid management, sensing and actuation solutions that improve efficiency, performance, and user experience.

Mechanics

Mechanics describes the physical and electromechanical elements tied to the product, incorporating complex mechanisms (motion and force transfer), and sealed electronic modules (environment protection).

Design

Design incorporates the visual and human-centered elements tied to the product. These elements include leather work (shifters), painting/plating (shifters and switch interfaces), graphic indicators (shifters and switch interfaces), decorative surfaces, industrial design, and in-mold decoration. These areas improve functionality and help separate our products from competitors.

Electronics

Electronics include all technologies that sense, control, indicate, and communicate within the products. Examples include connected electronics, electronic actuation, sensing and illumination solutions. By integrating these electronics into our products, we can deliver solutions that enhance functionality and vehicle performance.

Software

Software includes technologies that control product functionality, manage communication, and facilitate user interaction. By integrating embedded systems, cybersecurity, network communication, and graphical interfaces, GHSP creates intelligent solutions that enhance performance, reliability, and system integration.

Systems Engineering

Systems engineering integrates mechanics, electronics, software and design into a cohesive solution. We deliver intelligent systems—driver interface and control, actuation and motion control, thermal and fluid, sensing and evaporative emission—that enhance functionality, vehicle performance and the overall user experience.
